No - It wont work

The latest media storm has caused outrage in the forums/Facebook of Australians, a lot of people blaming Dictator Dan for - getting rid of their gas.

A weird attachment to a fuel source, now the most common argument is that of dual fuel supply means that if the electricity goes out you have a functional Gas supply.

Heating for home and water, cooktop functionality - all safe right? Well not quite, most central ducted gas heating system especially the 80%+ types actually use a lot of electrical components, especially the blower fans. These systems do not energise if the power is out, and let alone actually ignite (they are designed not to). Gas boosted/Solar water heating uses multiple pumps to run, even the booster has electrical components to it, which again are inoperable if there is no electricity.

So no - there is no redundancy, you loose electricity your water and heating are lost too.
